The trial of fourteen people suspected of involvement in the terrorist attack on the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo began today.

At the same time, the newspaper republishes the controversial caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad.

Christian Catomeris says that the newspaper justifies the publication by saying that they push the issue of freedom of expression.

After the terrorist attack on the newspaper in 2015, solidarity with the newspaper was great and many subscribed to support the newspaper.

Heavily armed police protect the editorial staff

- They got a lot of money, but as people they were completely broken.

They had seen their colleagues executed in front of them at the editorial office, says Christian Catomeris.

The newspaper has since lost almost all support subscribers and now works under completely different conditions than before the attack.

They work more or less trapped with heavily armed police on site to protect the editorial staff.

- It is difficult for some of them to live in such an editorial office, says Christian Catomeris.
