The performance of the patriotic works, which celebrate the heyday of the British Empire, has been strongly questioned in recent years.

After the big Black lives matter protests, the BBC considered deleting the songs, which are usually performed in front of a flag-waving and singing audience, as they are considered to be linked to colonialism and slavery.

Last week, the BBC announced that the works would be performed without a song for corona reasons, which would have meant that the controversial lines of text had to be deleted.

Now it is announced that the two songs will certainly be sung, but not by a large choir but by a small group of singers.

The concert will be held at the Royal Albert Hall in London on 12 September.
