Mulan

will be cheaper in France.

The blockbuster will be available on Disney + in France on December 4, at no additional cost to subscribers while the film will pay in the rest of the world, the platform announced on Wednesday to AFP.

This live-action version of the eponymous animated film inspired by the Chinese legend of Hua Mulan, should have been released in theaters in April 2020. But due to the health crisis linked to the coronavirus, its release which was announced as the 'one of the biggest in theaters this year was postponed and then abandoned, Disney deciding to broadcast it directly on its own Disney + streaming platform from September 4, except in France.

Earlier but more expensive outing outside France

Outside of France, where the film will be available online from September 4, Disney + subscribers will have to pay a significant amount ($ 29.90 in the United States) to watch it.

The film will still be released in theaters in a few countries, including September 11 in China, where Disney + is not available.

The deadline decided for French subscribers had fueled speculation on a possible French theatrical release, but Disney + told AFP that

Mulan

would be available exclusively on the platform.

This decision to release in streaming deprived the operators of French cinemas of a potential blockbuster, while the public is still rare in the dark rooms, and had therefore been very badly received by the professionals.

The video of a French operator destroying promotional material for the film had made the rounds on social networks last month.
