In January 2015, two assassins killed a total of 17 people, 12 of whom were on the editorial board of the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo.

"The Charlie Hebdo trial is a trial against the most extreme form of censorship, using the words of author George Bernard Shaw," said Christophe Deloire, secretary general of Reporters Without Borders (RSF).

Of the violent crimes committed against journalists around the world, only 10 percent are held accountable by the perpetrators.

That is why Reporters Without Borders believes that the trial in Paris is important for impunity.

- This trial is crucial for all the world's Charlies.

As we stated as recently as May this year, cartoonists, even in Sweden, continue to be threatened with death or subjected to attacks, says Erik Halkjaer, chairman of RSF Sweden.

The trial is set to begin on November 10.
