Documentary maker Gilles Cayatte delivers on France 5 "The rise and fall of Carlos Ghosn", broadcast Tuesday, September 1, where the big boss on the run talks about his career.

The director was Philippe Vandel's guest in Culture Médias, on Europe 1.

INTERVIEW

Six months of negotiation.

This is the time it took director Gilles Cayatte to convince Carlos Ghosn to confide in his new documentary.

The businessman, accused of false income statements and abuse of corporate assets, would not have set conditions to answer the director's questions.

The rise and fall of Carlos Ghosn

is broadcast on Tuesday September 1 on France 5, as part of the "Le monde en face" evening, presented by Marina Carrère d'Encausse.

The rise and fall of Carlos Ghosn

will in any case surprise the viewer with its launch dating back to ancient Rome.

A reference to the saying "it is not far from the Capitol to the Tarpéienne rock", meaning that the higher you climb, the more violent the fall.

A portrait, not an investigation

The documentary is eagerly awaited since the former CEO of Renault-Nissan delivers it on his journey, from his childhood to his imprisonment in Japan at the end of 2019. In the documentary, Carlos Ghosn recounts in detail his arrest in Japan and the surprise which grabbed it when he realized what was happening to him.

No revelation, however, about his incredible flight to Lebanon.

He does not comment on the subject, reserving his answer for a future book.

"He is not contradicted, he tells his story", explains Gilles Cayatte.

"The idea was to make a portrait of Carlos Ghosn and to explain through his psyche part of the reasons for his fall, excluding a judicial investigation since we have no access to the Tokyo prosecutors' file."

The director also justifies this choice by explaining that he is a documentary filmmaker, and not a journalist.
