Six police custody and seizures: the prefecture of Isère announced on Monday that it had "amplified" its controls against drug trafficking in the Grenoble metropolitan area, in response to videos of dealers posted on social networks.

These images of hooded and heavily armed men at a drug point of sale in the Mistral district in Grenoble had triggered the ire of the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin asking for a police operation in return on August 26 and an intensification of police presence.

Five placements in police custody

Since then, "amplifying the daily operations already carried out, several checks have been carried out in Grenoble, in particular in the Mistral district", mobilizing "more than 160 agents of the national police" with "the support of a CRS unit and as well as a squadron of the mobile gendarmerie ”, details the prefecture Monday.

There followed “14 arrests which gave rise to five placements in police custody”, for possession of “large sums of money in cash near the places of trafficking, the most important of which is more than 12,500 euros”;

as well as for "facts of fraud" and "theft", according to the press release.

Other operations to come in the department

"Several seizures of drugs (cannabis resin and cocaine) and cash were made and three scooters confiscated", added the prefecture which announces other operations of this type "in the days and weeks to come" in the department.

The sixth police custody follows a seizure of 10 kg of cannabis resin, three weapons and ammunition, as well as packaging material on Sunday in a district of Echirolles in the suburbs of Grenoble, "a short distance from the Mistral district" .
