Streaming service CBS All Access has published the first teaser for the series "Confrontation", based on the novel of the same name by Stephen King.

In the 30-second video, you can see the main characters of the series: Mother Abigail played by Whoopi Goldberg, Franny Goldsmith (Odessa Young), Stu Redman (James Marsden) and Larry Underwood (Jovan Adepo).

The teaser also features footage of Alexander Skarsgard playing the antagonist Randal Flagg.

By the way, it was in the book "Confrontation" that Flagg first appeared, who later became one of the antiheroes in a number of King's works.

The released video also shows frightening scenes in deserted streets, in a hospital and other gloomy places.

They all create a sense of the unsettling atmosphere of the project.

Other actors on the show include Amber Heard, Catherine McNamara, Brad William Henke, Nat Wolfe, Daniel Sunjata and Owen Teague.

Confrontation is a post-apocalyptic view of a devastated world involved in the confrontation between good and evil.

The events of the series take place on Earth after a deadly virus pandemic, which killed almost the entire population of the planet.

Survivors in the United States are divided into two camps.

The first joins the 108-year-old Mother Abigail, calling her followers through dreams, the second - to the "black man" named Randall Flagg.

He also possesses the strongest paranormal abilities, but uses them in the name of evil, subjugating people in the hope of seizing power.

Mother Abigail's comrades-in-arms who are on the side of good will try to thwart his plans.

At the same time, the virus, which marked the beginning of the global catastrophe, did not accidentally mutate and was transmitted to people from other species.

It was created by human hands and was developed as a biological weapon.

Producer Taylor Elmore, in an interview with Vanity Fair, noted that in his work, Stephen King, among other things, sought to show the consequences of people's actions.

The project was directed by Josh Boone, who directed the melodrama The Fault in the Stars and the fantastic horror film The New Mutants, which has not yet been released in Russia.

He also worked on the script for Confrontation.

Stephen King also took part in the creation of the script: he wrote the last, tenth episode of the series.

It is noteworthy that the author came up with an alternative ending that differs from the ending of the novel.

Showrunner of the series Benjamin Cavell said that work on the project began long before the coronavirus pandemic, and King came up with a new ending even earlier - several decades ago, but right now the topic touched on in the series is especially relevant.

However, despite this, there will be no mention of the coronavirus in the film adaptation.

The series "Confrontation" consists of ten episodes.

Its premiere is scheduled for December 17th.

Different versions of the same "Confrontation"

In it, the action takes place already in the 1990s, and the ending is much darker than in the first version.

The book received many positive reviews from critics and was ranked among the best works of the writer.
