In Soma City, where many people have died in the tsunami caused by the earthquake, the executive committee consisting of local residents and temple priests ran lanterns every year at this time to memorialize the victims.

Although it was scheduled to be the last at the 10th Kotoshi lantern shed, it was canceled due to the influence of the new coronavirus, so on the 30th we held a memorial service at the temple in the city with a limited number of participants.

At 2:46 pm when the earthquake struck, the group quietly offered their heads toward the sea and provided incense sticks to the memorial monument set up at the temple, one by one, and held hands together quietly.

According to the executive committee, the last lantern Nagashi that could not be held this year will be held next year.

Hirotaka Suzuki, one of the executive committee members and a resident priest of the Soma Ingestion Hospital, said, "Even though the lanterns were suspended due to the new coronavirus, we were able to hold memorial services for those who died in the disaster. I am relieved."
