"Only in Russia can there be a real landscape painter": 160th anniversary of the birth of Isaac Levitan

The Russian landscape painter Isaac Levitan was born on August 30, 1860. His teachers were the outstanding painters Vasily Perov, Alexey Savrasov and Vasily Polenov. He himself was a member of the Association of Traveling Art Exhibitions, whose members are better known as the Itinerants. Among the most famous works of the landscape painter are paintings "Golden Autumn", "Birch Grove", "Above Eternal Peace" and "Quiet Abode". Isaac Levitan passed away on August 4, 1900, a little before his 40th birthday - his health was severely undermined by years of poor life in his youth and twice suffered from typhus.
