No blue, a thin yellow stripe and just a logo. The storefront is much more discreet than for its traditional stores. But this time, for sure, after more than twenty years of trying to establish itself in the department, Ikea is indeed landing in Nice in a retail space. It will be from September 3 and in the city center, just a few meters from the Nicetoile shopping center, at 13bis rue Paul-Déroulède.
But beware, this will only be a foretaste: of this “Design Workshop” that 20 Minutes was able to visit exclusively a few days before its opening. Customers will not be able to leave with furniture (or candles for that matter) under their arm.
Seven typical kitchens and a sample of all finishes
“It's a unique format for the brand in France, covering 300m2. Visitors will design their kitchens or dressing rooms there with our specialists [three weeks of appointments have already been completed] and will order, ”explains Patrick Cazorla, director of this store, which will have 11 employees, including five recruited locally.
Seven standard kitchens, cupboard arrangements and all available finishes will be on display. But nothing more. To find all the departments of the Swedish giant, it will still be necessary to be patient and wait for the opening of the department store in the plain of Var, again delayed by the health crisis linked to the new coronavirus.
Other collection points in preparation
Stopped at the time of confinement, the impressive site could not restart until three months later, and gradually. An indefinite strike, which lasted for two days at the end of July to protest against a social plan project in one of the subsidiaries of the Vinci construction group, also raised fears of a new delay.
Today, Patrice Cazorla, who will also run this mastodon in the west of Nice (32,000 m2), is counting on an opening “in the first quarter of 2022”. “And we are working at the same time on the establishment of other collection points, in addition to the one in Carros, to cover the entire Alpes-Maritimes department. To the east, to the west and also to the north of Nice, ”announces the manager at 20 Minutes .
