"On August 26, in the Tretyakov Gallery on Krymsky Val, a heavy downpour caused a serious roof leak, which was the result of a one-time breakthrough of a worn-out storm sewer, which could not withstand the pressure of an exceptionally heavy rain," the message says.

As noted, the curators, restorers and other authorized services of the museum immediately began to carry out emergency measures to eliminate the consequences of leaks, primarily those that were necessary to ensure the safety and preservation of works of art.

The operative actions of the employees made it possible to dismantle the works from the walls as quickly as possible and avoid the threat of damage to them, the gallery said. Currently, work is underway to eliminate the causes of leaks.

Earlier, the Tretyakov Gallery reported that a roof leak occurred in the building on Krymsky Val due to heavy rain. The paintings were not damaged.
