The town hall wants a fridge shared by district in Bordeaux - CCAS

  • Bordeaux City Hall is calling for applications to install new shared fridges in the city. The goal is to have one per neighborhood.
  • Since 2018, the device has proven its worth according to the CCAS with in particular a single fridge degraded in two years.
  • Applicants have until September 18 to apply. The town hall will pay a subsidy of 5,000 euros.

He might soon be mushrooming in the city. Bordeaux city hall is launching a new call for applications to develop its network of shared refrigerators as part of the first participatory budget campaign (2019-2021). After a vote of the inhabitants, around forty projects like this one had been selected a year and a half ago.

“The first fridge was installed in 2018 and today, there are several in the Metropolis thanks to different associations (the Crepaq (educational ecology resource center of Nouvelle-Aquitaine) and Les Frigos Solidaires), but our goal is to have at least one in each district of Bordeaux. That is to say eight. And that could increase quickly because the new municipality wants to re-divide the city, ”explains Elsa Placide, development officer at the CCAS (communal center of social action) and responsible for the project. The objective is twofold: to fight against food insecurity and waste.

A single fridge degraded after two years of experience

At the moment, there are already five in Bordeaux, but some are in the same area. For example, there are none in the city center at all. “It is not always easy to find a suitable place, recalls Elsa Placide, the designer must have a connection nearby. The candidates have until September 18 to make themselves known. The lucky winner should be able to install three new shared fridges by the end of the year, thanks to the 5,000 euros grant from the town hall. Anyone can apply (individuals, restaurateurs, associations, etc.).

If the new municipal team led by Pierre Hurmic (EELV) is committed to continuing the PAT (territorial food project) with a social vocation, it is because this device seems to be working well, according to the CCAS: “We have very positive feedback. . In two years, only one fridge has suffered damage. Some tell us that they are sometimes empty but for having conducted our investigation, it's just that things are going very quickly. Most of the food deposited immediately finds takers. "

As a reminder, everyone can drop off what they want in these shared and anti-waste refrigerators, except meat and fish.
