In turn affected by the Covid-19 crisis, Netflix has announced its decision to simply cancel two series: "The Society" and "I'm Not Okay With This". The fault of an excessively high production budget because of the very strict sanitary conditions on the film sets.

Films postponed, shootings suspended because of health risks or even postponed indefinitely … The world of cinema is severely and lastingly affected by the Covid crisis. Production difficulties which concern both artists and exhibitors who find themselves without films to broadcast. And that goes beyond the big screen: series too are going through a complicated period. After having lived these last months on their reserves, the chains and the platforms start to stick out the language. And even Netflix is affected: the streaming platform had to resolve to cancel series.

The Covid explodes series budgets

Despite the calls made by the protagonists in the series, no one will come looking for the teens lost in a world emptied of its inhabitants of The Society.  No one will come and help the students with superpowers from I'm Not Okay With This either . Two programs intended for an audience of young adults, a promising niche for platforms, but sacrificed by Netflix in recent days. The reason: between management of social distancing and protective equipment for the teams, the filming adapted to the coronavirus would have exploded the budget of the two productions.

Call for a boycott of Netflix

Yet The Society  and I'm Not Okay With This  had received a good reception from the public. And proof that Netflix was counting on them for the future, the first was renewed for a season 2 and the second was about to be. And she believes that fans of the canceled series will find their happiness there. A luxury that the film studios cannot afford, having to deal with the additional cost of health protocols and the postponement of cascading films.
