Area where evacuation instructions are canceled without decontamination “Relevant” national exposure measures 16:29, August 26

Regarding the evacuation order that is still issued in Fukushima prefecture due to the impact of the nuclear accident, the Cabinet Office cancels the order without removing the soil in the area that meets the conditions such as inhabitants' residence. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission said on the 26th that it would be appropriate to take measures to prevent the exposure of residents and other parties while considering a possible mechanism.

In Fukushima Prefecture, there are still “restricted access areas” where access is strictly restricted, and evacuation orders continue.

In the country where radiation dose naturally declines and is below 20 millisieverts a year, in areas where conditions such as inhabitants do not meet, decontamination work such as soil removal and plant cutting is performed. We are considering a mechanism to cancel the evacuation order even without it.

On this day, a person in charge of the Cabinet Office asked the NRA for an opinion on measures to prevent exposure when entering the area.

Specifically, the residents who enter the dosimeter are responsible for managing their own exposure doses, creating detailed radiation dose maps within the area, and providing information.

In this regard, the Regulatory Commission has justified the indicated measures.

Regarding the review, Iitate village in Fukushima prefecture, which has a difficult-to-return area, is requesting early cancellation of evacuation instructions without complete removal of soil to improve the park. The governor has indicated that these cases are special cases and that decontamination is the principle.

The Cabinet Office has not yet decided when and how the new evacuation order cancellation mechanism will be put together.
