Several major Polish writers, including Nobel laureate Olga Tokarczuk, have chosen to leave the Polish Writers' Union after the management began a collaboration with a state-funded literary institute, founded by the country's Minister of Culture Piotr Gliński.

But now the writers' union claims that this is not a collaboration, reports Kulturnytt.

The association's chairman Anna Nasilowska tells Kulturnytt that the literature institute will provide temporary support during this year, as many of the association's members are in financial difficulties as a result of the corona pandemic.

The Literature Institute has criticized for only providing financial support to authors who sympathize with the governing party Law and Justice. But Anna Nasilowska believes that it is the Polish Writers' Union's own committee that chooses who will receive literature support.
