One week before the start of the school year, the coronavirus continues to circulate in France, with a positivity rate which rose from 3.4% to 3.6% between the reports on Friday and Monday. This increase in the number of cases is also recorded in many other countries of the old continent, where, as in France, health measures are strengthened: Spain, which on Monday exceeded the bar of 400,000 cases diagnosed, is considering "measures drastic "in its capital Madrid. The circulation of the virus seems to be uncontrollable in Latin America, especially in Peru and Argentina. In total, since the start of the crisis, more than 810,000 people have died. Follow the evolution of the situation live.

The main information to remember:

  • SMEs will benefit from an extension of the repayment periods for current loans guaranteed by the State, announces Bruno Le Maire
  • The death toll stands at 30,528 in France, with a marked increase in the circulation of the virus
  • In Europe: restrictions are accelerating: Germany advises against visiting two French regions and Spain is considering one-off lockdowns for its capital Madrid
  • The coronavirus has killed more than 810,000 people worldwide

The State promises sustainable support for SMEs

SMEs will benefit from lasting support from the State, not only by an extension of the repayment periods of the current guaranteed loans, but also by a new system of very long-term loans, announced Bruno Le Maire, Minister of Finance. 'Economy. "It is in everyone's collective interest that SMEs can meet their repayment deadlines and recover," he said during an interview with our colleagues from Les Echos newspaper

"Many (companies) will not be able to repay their EMP after one year (...) and will therefore ask to extend the repayment period", admitted Bruno Le Maire, who admits that the crisis will not be not erased in a few months. "I will not play with the truth: there are a lot of unknowns before us, a lot of uncertainties. The recovery will take at least two years, but I think it is possible in two years", declared Monday evening the minister on LCI.

More than 30,500 dead in France, the positivity rate on the rise

Is France experiencing a second wave of the coronavirus? If the number of deaths increases much less sharply than in the spring, with 30,528 deaths in total, the number of cases continues to grow, as does the positivity rate. Between the reports communicated Friday and Monday, it goes from 3.4% to 3.6%, which shows a clear increase in the circulation of the virus. However, in 72 hours, the number of hospitalizations decreases, from 4,745 to 4,690 people treated. But that of resuscitations, which fluctuates regularly, increases at the same time, from 379 to 399, with 43 admissions over the last 24 hours. We explain why the increase in the number of cases is greater than that of hospitalizations in this article.

Hauts-de-France promises masks for all high school students

The president of the Hauts-de-France region, Xavier Bertrand, has promised to provide a free reusable fabric mask to each high school student and apprentice after the government imposed the "systematic" wearing of the mask in middle and high school classrooms . "In addition to the masks distributed during the #UnMasquePourChacun operation, the @hautsdefrance Region will provide all high school students and apprentices in public and private establishments with a reusable fabric mask in order to allow a re-entry in the best sanitary conditions," announced Monday on Twitter the president of the Regional Council Xavier Bertrand (ex-LR).

New restrictions in Europe, fear of a "hub" in Sardinia

On Monday evening, Germany placed the Île-de-France and Provence-Alpes-Côte-d'Azur regions in “risk areas”, the Foreign Ministry announced on Monday. The ministry warns on its website against "tourist travel, not essential" to these regions, which means that travelers returning to Germany will have to undergo a drug test and observe a quarantine while waiting for the result. The number of new Covid-19 infections in these regions exceeds the ceiling of 50 cases per 100,000 inhabitants over seven days, he explains.

Spain, which surpassed the 400,000 diagnosed cases on Monday, is considering "drastic measures" in its capital Madrid, for example one-off confinements or limitations to the mobility of the population, said Fernando Simón, director of the center of health emergencies at the Ministry of Health. In Italy, the island of Sardinia, a popular destination for its "Emerald Coast", has turned this summer into a sort of de facto "hub" for the virus. This implies the risk that the disease will spread throughout the country when the more than 250,000 holidaymakers who are still there return home in the coming days.

"Patients who have already had Covid-19 can be infected again", say researchers

A Hong Kong resident who recovered from Covid-19 was infected with the coronavirus again, more than four months after his recovery. This first confirmed case of reinfection in humans was announced Monday by researchers at the University of Hong Kong. "Patients who have already had Covid-19 must bear in mind that they can be infected again and must respect physical distancing, wear a mask and wash their hands," one of the study author Kelvin Kai-Wang To. If the news seems worrying in the absence of a vaccine, specialists warn against hasty conclusions on immunity.

Bolsonaro praises the merits of hydroxychloroquine

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro estimated on Monday that hydroxychloroquine could have saved many lives in Brazil, where the coronavirus epidemic has killed more than 115,300 people in six months. "You have saved, as I understand it, thousands and thousands of lives in Brazil. If hydroxychloroquine had not been politicized, many more lives could have been saved," Jair Bolsonaro said. The molecule has however been deemed ineffective and in some cases dangerous in the face of Covid-19 by several scientific studies.

Peru exceeds 600,000 cases, Argentina 7,000 dead

A total of 150 new deaths have been reported in the past 24 hours, the lowest toll in two and a half months, bringing the total death toll to 27,813.
