Infections increase by more than 7,000 in one day. The figures updated and released this Tuesday by the Ministry of Health register 7,117 new cases since yesterday, a higher number than that provided on Monday, when 19,382 confirmed cases were reported since Friday, that is, an average of more than 6,400 daily.

It should be remembered that these 7,117 include both the positive PCR tests carried out yesterday, as well as the PCRs from previous days, but whose result was announced on the last day. Regarding the infections that underwent the diagnostic test yesterday, Health communicates 2,415, 355 more than on Monday, when 2,060 were counted. The majority of them are located in Madrid (768); Andalusia (257); and the Basque Country (225).

The report also reveals 52 new deaths since yesterday, so there are already 28,924 people who have lost their lives due to the virus in our country. A figure, however, that does not include deaths in residences or those who presented symptoms compatible with Covid-19, but who did not get to carry out the diagnostic test. With a death date in the last week, 116 deaths have been reported.

Almost half of these correspond to Madrid, which totals 54; followed by Andalusia, which reports 12; and Aragón, 11. Valencia and Galicia, meanwhile, register seven; Castilla y León, five; Catalonia and Extremadura, three; Balearic Islands, Canary Islands, Castilla La Mancha, Murcia and La Rioja, two. In addition, Asturias, Cantabria, Navarra and the Basque Country have one. Ceuta and Melilla are the only communities that have not reported any deaths.

In terms of revenue, after yesterday's slight decline, they are on the rise again. Specifically, Health registers 1,403 during the last seven days, 109 more than on Monday, and 903 in the last hours (the previous day was 705). Madrid continues to be the community with the most hospitalizations, reporting 413 in the last week; followed by Andalusia (190); and Valencia (119).

Likewise, of the more than 1,400 admissions, 87 have entered the ICU in the same period of time and 40 in the last hours. Thus, the total number of patients who have been admitted to this hospital unit now stands at 12,138. In the last 24 hours, 699 patients have been discharged (224 on Monday).

Regarding the care capacity of hospitals to cover admissions for coronavirus, official data report that, on average, the percentage of beds occupied by the virus in Spain is 5.3%, two tenths more than yesterday. Aragon is the region with the highest occupancy percentage (13.1%). Madrid and the Basque Country occupy the second and third place with 12.8% and 9.7%, respectively.

At the European level, Spain continues to be the second European country with the most infections since the start of the pandemic (412,553), only behind Russia (961,493). Likewise, the United Kingdom and Italy follow, with 326,614 and 260,298, respectively. The country with the highest number of deaths continues to be the United Kingdom (41,433), followed by Italy (35,441) and France (30,528).

In addition, Spain continues to lead the large European countries with the highest cumulative incidence (AI) of the virus, with 173 infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days (Monday 166). This is more than double that of the second country with the most AI: Romania, with 74.8. Belgium follows (63.9); and France (60.7).
