  Sichuan Online reporter Li Huan

On August 23, a news that "two medical students kneeled to the ground to save lives was not effective but were criticized" caused heated discussions on the Internet. The parties involved, Peng Jieting and Chen Jiali, graduated from Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine with a master's degree this year. What happened on the day of the incident? Facing the bad reviews on the Internet, what do the two students think? Sichuan Online reporter has an exclusive conversation with news client Peng Jieting.

On the evening of August 14, Peng Jieting and Chen Jiali were going to take the K502 train from Changde, Hunan to Chengdu, Sichuan. The train departed at 7:22 in the evening. After the broadcast instructed the passengers to start the ticket check, the passengers flooded into the ticket gate. On the flyover leading to the train, a bunch of people surrounded an unconscious man, and some anxiously shouted: "Someone has heat stroke."

Peng Jieting and Chen Jiali from Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine saw this and did not hesitate to stop and give first aid to the man. "He was wearing a blue striped short-sleeved shirt. I untied his collar and touched his carotid artery with my hand. However, I felt his pulse beat very weakly and his breathing was weak, indicating that his vital signs are no longer sufficient. Obviously." Peng Jieting recalled the situation that day. She and Chen Jiali took turns to rescue the patients with cardiopulmonary resuscitation until the ambulance arrived.

At this time, train K502 has departed. With the assistance of the station staff, the two students changed their tickets, left Changde and returned to Chengdu more than an hour later.

The video of the two classmates saving lives was uploaded on the Internet. The live video showed that the two girls left silently after the 120 first-aid personnel who arrived at the scene carried the fallen man onto a stretcher. The moment they turned to leave the scene, the two couldn't help sobbing, and they covered their eyes with their arms, and kept wiping tears. After this video of saving lives was circulated on the Internet, many people comforted the two girls who saved them: "You have done your best" and "You have done your best. Don't blame yourself, it's good." On August 15, the official Weibo of Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine made a comment: Your kneeling posture to save people is beautiful.

When everyone praised the behavior of the two students, they were spoofed, complained, and rumorsed by netizens: "The next day the family of the man took the two students to court because the two girls did not have medical qualifications. What is the plot? Like.” This comment even received more than 60,000 likes.

Faced with this situation, the family of the middle-aged man stood up. The family of the man said, "Although the person is gone, we must be grateful. The two students have done their best; they are not to blame if the rescue is not successful." The family also criticized the spoofs and rumors of netizens: "If you don't know the truth, you will be confused. Commenting is unethical."

On August 23, Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine announced on Weibo: Our students practice medical students' oaths with their own actions and reflect the good qualities of medical students. The school plans to award two special prizes to the principals of students at the freshmen opening ceremony, demonstrating charity. The medical spirit is also used to educate the new students.

The School of Ophthalmology of Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, where Peng Jieting and Chen Jiali are located, announced that the School of Ophthalmology and the affiliated Yinhai Eye Hospital have decided to award Peng Jieting and Chen Jiali with the sincerity award to recognize their doctors’ benevolence and the medical spirit of saving the dead.

Duan Junguo, professor of the School of Ophthalmology of Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and dean of Yinhai Eye Hospital affiliated to Peng Jieting, said that an excellent medical practitioner must have both superb medical skills and noble morals. Peng Jieting and Chen Jia practiced the essence of "Great Doctor Sincerity" with practical actions. Such behavior deserves encouragement.

Sichuan Online: How long did your emergency rescue last?

Peng Jieting: We have been giving patients CPR until the ambulance arrives. A staff member told us that your car had already driven away. At this time, I looked up and saw the clock on the wall showing 7:26. The rescue lasted more than 20 minutes.

Sichuan Online: We saw you two crying from the video.

Peng Jieting: After the doctor arrived, he checked the pupils of the patient and found that his pupils had been dilated, saying that there was little hope of treatment. In fact, we observed his pupils during the rescue and noticed this situation. But we still regret not having exchanged his life, so we are more sad.

Sichuan Online: How do you feel when you see bad reviews on the Internet?

Peng Jieting: To be honest, we did not pay attention to online comments. After returning to Chengdu, we were busy preparing for the exam. I learned the online comments from my classmates. We feel that we have done what we should do and we have a clear conscience.

Sichuan Online: Is the emergency measure of cardiopulmonary resuscitation that only professional medical personnel can master?

Peng Jieting: In fact, cardiopulmonary resuscitation is a very basic and very practical rescue measure. The skills are not complicated. Everyone can master and implement it.

The purpose of cardiopulmonary resuscitation is to help the patient restart his breathing cycle and help him get the time for professional doctors to arrive. When my classmates and I were doing CPR on this patient that day, someone next to me said that the girl was not strong enough, and a middle-aged man also came to help and performed several cycles of chest compressions on the patient.

Sichuan Online: What exchanges did the family members of the deceased have with you?

Peng Jieting: Family members have repeatedly expressed their gratitude to us, saying that we have done our best. Family members are in the grief of losing their loved ones. They are actually not easy. I don't want the family members to be thankful for our psychological pressure.

Sichuan Online: The school will award you a "Principal Award". What do you think of this honor?

Peng Jieting: This award is very important. Thank the school and teachers for their recognition of our behavior. I think this is the responsibility of every medical student.
