Junior high school closed in March 5 months late at Corona closing ceremony Hiroshima Kure August 23 16:11

At a junior high school in Kure City, Hiroshima Prefecture, which closed in March this year, a closing ceremony was held on March 23, which had been postponed due to the effect of the new coronavirus, and students and locals said goodbye to their learning.

Shimokamakari Junior High School, which is the only one in Shimokamakari Island in Kure City, began its 73-year history at the end of March, as it was integrated into a junior high school on the neighboring island.

Originally, the closing ceremony was scheduled to be held together with the graduation ceremony, but it was postponed due to the influence of the new coronavirus, and it was held about 5 months later on the 23rd after taking infection prevention measures.

Approximately 80 people, including the last graduates and locals, attended the ceremony held at the gymnasium, and former principal Hirohiko Kakibayashi said, "We have sent out 4021 graduates so far. I am pleased to be able to hold the closing ceremony." After that, I returned the school flag to Mayor Yoshiaki Niihara of Kure City.

Then, when a video reflecting the history of 73 years of school was projected, the people who attended regretted the farewell.

"I'm relieved to be able to hold the closing ceremony with local people," said the first-year high school girl student who was the last graduate.

A local graduate chairman, who is also a graduate, said, "I'm very sorry and sad because I had a deep relationship with the place where I spent the most important time of my life, but I am full of gratitude."

After the ceremony, attendees visited the classrooms and said goodbye to learning about their memories.
