[Poverty Alleviation Story] "Artistic Adventure" in the "Three Noes" Dai Village in Tengchong, Yunnan

[Explanation] It was rainy in Tengchong, Yunnan in August. The old Dai people in Palian Village raised a pond fire and sang the old tune of the Dai people. On the second floor, the watercolor paintings created and taught by the villagers were displayed. Tradition and modern art complement each other in this art gallery located in the Dai village.

[Explanation] Recently, the reporter visited Palian Village. This three-no village, once known as "no characteristics, no advantages, and no potential", has experienced an "art adventure" in the past few months.

[Explanation] At the end of 2019, Palian Village welcomed a team of artists, and "Art Changes the Country" was launched here. Combining folk customs and modern culture, they used seemingly useless resources such as vacant land, abandoned walls, and broken tiles to transform them into exquisite works of art. In Tengchong City, which is rich in tourism resources and the tourism industry is growing rapidly, the addition of modern art elements has made Palian Village a well-known "net celebrity check-in point."

From the development of rural tourism to promote and promote our poverty alleviation work, to drive our people to increase income and become rich. Since the establishment of this idea and this theme, we have followed this idea and this theme, and there are more and more tourists (to) Palian.

[Explanation] The increase in tourists has brought business opportunities to the villagers. The villagers started business at their doorstep and found a way to get rich. Dai girl Yang Xiugai opened a "small shop" in the art gallery, selling freshly picked fruits, village specialties, pig skins, and so on, earning nearly 2,000 yuan a day at the top.

Old people can sell small things in front of their homes, and they don’t have to carry them back to the town to sell them. Now that these arts and poems have been added to the village, we will also realize the importance of learning knowledge and pay attention to our children to learn.

[Commentary] Villager Shao Weixin also set up a small stall in his yard. In addition to some small commodities, with the help of Dai brocade craftsmanship, she also sells traditional handmade clothing.

[Explanation] In just six months, Palian Village has 4 farmhouses, 2 homestays, and more than 20 snack bars. During the "May Day" period in 2020, the village's single-day visitor volume reached 3,000. More and more investors have come to the village to do research and look for investment opportunities.

(In the future) we must also consider the process of continuing and increasing income for the villagers in the future, because the next step is to move towards rural revitalization. What we have to do now is how to combine rural tourism with the work of strengthening the village's collective economy. This is what we have to consider now.

[Explanation] Art leads the change in the countryside, and the integration of agriculture and tourism promotes economic development. How to effectively connect poverty alleviation and rural revitalization, the exploration and practice of Palian Village continues to deepen.
