Another important increase in the number of infections. The figures published this Friday by the Ministry of Health have registered 8,148 new positives, 1,109 more than on Thursday, when 7,039 were reported. In this way, the total number of infections since the start of the pandemic rises to 386,054.

Of the more than 8,000 cases, 3,650 have been confirmed by PCR in the last 24 hours (3,349 on Thursday). Most of them in Madrid (1,199); the Basque Country (685); and Aragon (342). Melilla and Cantabria have not updated their data.

The official count also reports 25 new deaths since yesterday, adding to a total of 28,838 people who have lost their lives due to coronavirus in our country. It should be remembered that this data does not include deaths in residences or those with symptoms compatible with the virus, but who did not undergo a PCR test.

With death date in the last week, 125 deaths have been registered. More than half of them are concentrated in Madrid and Aragon, which have reported 42 and 40, respectively. For their part, Andalusia and Catalonia have notified 10; Valencia, five; Castilla y León, four; Canarias and Galicia, three; Balearic Islands, Extremadura and Murcia; two; and Cantabria and La Rioja, one. The rest of the communities have not added any deaths in the last seven days.

Hospitalized people, although at a slower rate, also continue to grow. The report has 1,467 admissions lasting the last seven days and 765 in the last 24 hours (the previous day they were 758). Madrid continues to be the community with the most hospitalizations, with 392 in the last week; followed by Andalusia, which overtakes Aragon with 188; and Aragon, with 185. On the other hand, 93 patients have required ICU during the same period of time and 15 new ones have been registered since yesterday. The total number of patients in this hospital unit due to the virus stands at 12,060. In addition, Health reports that in the last hours 658 patients have been discharged (there were 468 yesterday).

Since yesterday Health also registers the assistance capacity to treat Covid patients at the regional and national level. Thus, the official document notifies that, on average, the percentage of beds occupied by coronavirus in Spain is 4.4%, a figure slightly higher than the previous day (4.30%). The communities with the most occupation are Aragón (13.6%); Madrid (9.8%); and the Basque Country (9.1%).

At the European level, Spain continues to be the second European country with the most infections since the beginning of the pandemic (386,054), only behind Russia (942,106). Likewise, the United Kingdom and Italy follow, with 322,280 and 256,118, respectively. The country with the highest number of deaths is still the United Kingdom (41,403), followed by Italy (35,418) and France (30,480).

In addition, Spain continues to lead the large European countries with the highest cumulative incidence (AI) of the virus, with 149 infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days. This is more than double that of the second country with the most AI: Romania, with 73.6. Belgium follows (53.9); and Ukraine (48.3).
