The principle that things are as they appear to be rules in politics. That is why the leader of the Popular Party, Pablo Casado , had to make an effort yesterday to explain that the dismissal of Cayetana Álvarez de Toledo does not imply retracing any path nor is her head a trophy to facilitate any negotiation with the Government. The popular reiterated firmly that "there is no possible pact with those who ask for the abdication of the King , the independence of Catalonia or the whitening of batasunos ." Thus, he stopped the debate that some sectors have opened in recent months on the need for the PP to help Pedro Sánchezin an economic scenario as serious as the one that is coming. It is not in Casado that you have to put the pressure or the responsibility. The Prime Minister is the one who is obliged to rectify . You can't keep juggling impossible games or playing double decks. The popular leader is absolutely right when he affirms that the collaboration demanded of him is incompatible with the Executive being in the hands of the secessionists who seek to break Spain or a radical left obsessed with demolishing the constitutional system.

The internal crisis in the Popular Party should have been resolved in a better way by all parties. In any case, in a project like the one claimed by Casado, which appeals to the need to broaden the bases and to once again be the home of the entire center-right "in order to once again shelter 10 million Spaniards" -in allusion to the many Voters who in recent years have gone to Vox or Ciudadanos-, are fundamental figures like Álvarez de Toledo . The conciliatory message that Casado sent him yesterday should be much more than good words, because the PP cannot do without political assets like her. That said, the party leader has every right to reformulate his teams and seek maximum cohesion and unity image. And an appointment like José Luis Martínez-Almeida , one of the rising values of the party with an unstoppable projection endorsed by the applauded management being carried out by the Madrid City Council, cannot but be considered successful . For her part, Cuca Gamarra is a mystery as a spokesperson in Congress, a task in which Álvarez de Toledo has excelled.

We said that, in the political arena, things are as they seem. And the worst thing that could happen to the popular is to fall into the trap that Moncloa so cleverly tends, leaning on its media tentacles, when it presents the opposition as radical if it does not submissively bend to its demands or wage the battle of ideas . Of course, the latter is important. Casado said yesterday that it is about moving "from the muses to the theater" to improve the life of the Spanish. Well, this improvement also requires undertaking the democratic regeneration with which the popular one committed himself in the congress of the party that elevated him to the presidency. Promises that translate into things as concrete as refusing a pact with Sánchez to renew the CGPJ that will be limited to being an exchange of stickers , to mention an issue on the table. Because the problem is neither within the PP nor was Cayetana.
