Imprisonment of 42 residents of a village in Egypt to prevent them from burying a doctor who died of "Corona"

Mansoura Criminal Court, northern Egypt, sentenced those accused of preventing the burial of a female doctor who died in Corona with prison terms ranging from one to 10 years.

The court ruled that 23 defendants in the case of preventing the burial of the body of Dr. Sonia Abdel-Azim Aref, after her death from the Corona virus, were sentenced to one year in prison, and it was also sentenced to three years in prison for two others, namely the village mosque worker and his father, for accusing them of broadcasting the news of the arrival of a case infected with Corona for burial, as well as Sentenced to 10 years in prison for 17 fugitive defendants. The incident dates back to last April, when the village of Shubra Al-Bahou, affiliated to the city of Aja in Dakahlia, witnessed a massive demonstration by the people to prevent the burial of the body of Doctor Sonia Abdel-Azim, who died from the Corona virus.

The security forces arrested 22 villagers who gathered in front of its entrances, refusing to enter an ambulance carrying the doctor’s body, until the security forces intervened and dispersed them, and the Preventive Medicine teams managed to bury the body.

The prosecution charged the defendants with charges of participating in committing a terrorist act, which is to prevent the burial of the body of a deceased woman by using force and violence, threatening and intimidation with the aim of disturbing public order, endangering the safety, interests and security of society, as well as harming individuals and casting terror among them, endangering their public and private security and rights and referring them to felonies. .
