Britney Spears wants to be free from her father's guardianship

The American pop star, Britney Spears (38 years), who has been under the guardianship of her father for more than 10 years, is seeking to remedy this situation that controls her professional and private life. Her lawyer, Samuel Ingham, asked the judiciary to withdraw her father from the guardianship agreement, to be replaced by Judy Montgomery, who is a guardian who is professional in this profession.

In 2008, the singer suffered many problems, and was hospitalized, but she returned and arranged the affairs of her personal and professional life, and lived a life far from the limelight. Since then, she has been living under a guardianship system with court approval.

Montgomery has been running Britney Spears' business temporarily for nearly a year, after her father suffered health problems.

"We have reached a stage where the conditions of guardianship should change dramatically, to reflect the major changes in their current lifestyle," the lawyer wrote in documents filed with a Los Angeles court.

He explained that among these changes is the desire of the singer, who announced in January 2019 that she would stop singing for an unlimited period, not to do artistic tours anymore.

The attorney added that Britney Spears "strongly opposes" her father's return to the role of guardian, as soon as Montgomery's term ends on August 22.

"Britney does not dispense with her right to seek an end to the guardianship system in the future, but she wishes to have Montgomery permanently appoint a will."

The lawyer stressed that the singer "would prefer" to be supervised by someone other than her father. Fans of Britney Spears demonstrated under the slogan "Free Britney".
