The number of deaths has skyrocketed in recent hours. The official report of the Ministry of Health updated and released this Wednesday reveals that 127 people have lost their lives due to coronavirus during the last day, a figure five times higher than that provided on Tuesday, when the official count registered 24 deaths. Therefore, the total number of people killed by Covid-19 in Spain amounts to 28,797. Of course, this figure excludes deaths in residences and those with symptoms compatible with the virus, but who did not undergo a PCR test.

With a death date in the last week, 131 deaths have been registered , double the number the week before . Specifically, between August 5 and 12, Health added a total of 65 deaths. Of the 131, 56 correspond to Aragon; 35 to Madrid; and 10 to Andalusia. For its part, Catalonia reports eight; Valencia of five; Castilla y León of four; and Galicia of three. In addition, the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands and Murcia register two; and Castilla La Mancha, Extremadura, Navarra and La Rioja, one. Cantabria, Ceuta, Melilla and the Basque Country have not notified any.

The new registered infections have also grown significantly in the last day. Specifically, the official report of the Ministry of Health updated and released this Wednesday notifies 6,671 confirmed cases in the last 24 hours, 1,557 more than on Tuesday, when 5,114 were counted. In this way, 370,867 people have already been infected by the coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic.

Of the more than 6,000 positives, 3,715 had the PCR done yesterday, with half being concentrated in Madrid (1535); very far from the second community with the most new infections: La Rioja (472); followed by Aragon (466).

People infected by the virus in our country have doubled in two weeks. Thus, between August 29 and 5, the official count reported a total of 18,298 infections, an average of about 2,614 per day. However, the report updated and released by the Ministry of Health this Wednesday reveals that 34,645 confirmed cases have accumulated in the last week, that is, about 5,000 daily . These are contagion figures that place us at the same level as in the third week of March.

Hospitalized people, meanwhile, continue to grow. Specifically, the official report reports 1,336 admissions, 240 more than on Tuesday. Madrid continues to lead in the number of hospitalizations (346); followed by Aragon (251) and Andalusia (168).

Likewise, 84 patients have entered the ICU during the same period of time and 35 in the last hours, so that there are already 12,027 patients who have entered this hospital unit because of the virus. Of these, 56 correspond to Aragon; 35 to Madrid; and 10 to Andalusia. For its part, Catalonia reports eight; Valencia of five; Castilla y León of four; and Galicia of three. In addition, the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands and Murcia register two; and Castilla La Mancha, Extremadura, Navarra and La Rioja, one. Cantabria, Ceuta, Melilla and the Basque Country have not notified any.

At the European level, Spain remains the second European country with the most infections since the start of the pandemic (370,867) , only behind Russia (932,493). Likewise, the United Kingdom and Italy follow, with 320,386 and 254,636, respectively. The country with the highest number of deaths continues to be the United Kingdom (41,369), followed by Italy (35,405) and France (30,451).

In addition, Spain continues to lead the large European countries with the highest cumulative incidence (AI) of the virus, with 136 infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days. This is a far cry from the second country with the most AI: Romania, with 74.7. Belgium follows (68.8); and Russia (45.6).
