According to Rong Ji, the head of the Law Enforcement Brigade of the Songpan County Emergency Management Bureau, in addition to a critically ill patient, there were two other patients on the helicopter.
It is understood that on the morning of August 19, the Songpan County Government of Aba Prefecture sent an official letter to the Beichuan County Government of Mianyang City: "There is a critically ill patient in our county who needs to take a helicopter to the Gui County Hospital for treatment this morning. Please your county to coordinate the helicopter. The landing location and security work during landing."

Xu Li, deputy dean of Beichuan County People’s Hospital, said that when he first received a notice from the Beichuan County government, he learned that he was a patient with kidney failure caused by uremia and needed dialysis. Xu Li said: "We immediately deployed more than 10 related professionals and rescue equipment and facilities, and cleared the hospital's basketball court into a helicopter landing site. Later, considering safety factors, the government decided to choose the helicopter landing site at Beichuan General Airport."
