  "Medical Generation" Zhong Shifan

Born in 1901, he grew up with his uncle in Gulangyu Island, Xiamen, and studied while working and was admitted to Peking Union Medical College.

After graduating in 1930, Zhong Shifan went to the State University of New York to study, and after obtaining a doctorate in medicine, he resolutely returned to China in 1946. In 1946, Guizhou General Hospital, one of the three general hospitals, moved to Guangzhou and established Guangzhou General Hospital. Zhong Shifan was appointed as the deputy dean. In the same year, he was hired as a professor of pediatrics at Lingnan Medical College.

Zhong Shifan is a well-known national first-level professor of pediatrics. In his later years, he also supported the patient to compile the "Differential Diagnosis of Pediatric Diseases" with more than 400,000 words.

"The Second Generation of Medicine" Zhong Nanshan

Born in 1936, Zhong Nanshan has received numerous honors to this day, and recently won the highest honor of the People’s Republic of China-the Medal of the Republic.

Under the influence of his parents, Zhong Nanshan was admitted to Beijing Medical College at the age of 19, and then stayed on as a teacher. In 1971, he entered the Department of Internal Medicine at the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical College. In 1996, he was elected an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. During the SARS outbreak in 2003 and the new crown pneumonia in 2020, he dared to speak up and became the "hard core" Zhong Nanshan praised by people.

"Three Generations of Medicine" Zhong Weide

Born in 1968, under the influence of his grandfather and father, he was admitted to Sun Yat-sen Medical University. After graduation, he entered the Guangzhou First People's Hospital to work in the early diagnosis and treatment of urinary system tumors.

As a new generation of outstanding experts in urology in China, Zhong Weide won the title of Guangzhou's Top Ten Outstanding Youths for the second time and won the "Wu Jieping Urology Award", the highest honor in China's urology department. He presided over medical research, edited medical monographs, and published medical papers. He is already a famous medical expert who enjoys special allowance from the State Council.

 Heart of the doctor:

The original intention of the three generations remains unchanged, and the unremitting pursuit of medicine

The Zhong family’s grandparents have been practicing medicine for three generations. What has remained unchanged until now? Zhong Nanshan said in an interview: "I think the biggest change is to take responsibility for patients and unremitting pursuit of medical research!"

Zhong Nanshan followed his father since he was a child, from Nanjing to Guizhou and Guangzhou. Zhong Shifan was always busy until late at night. In Zhong Nanshan's eyes, his father "almost never rests."

Why does the Zhong family’s "medical generation" practice medicine? Zhong Weide recalled that he asked his aunt Zhong Qianjun, and the answer he got was that Zhong Shifan had been poor since childhood and had gone through hardships. In such a difficult period, going to medicine was his choice of cherishing learning opportunities.

In the long history of pediatric medicine, love and responsibility are Zhong Shifan's lifelong persistence.

"Your grandfather said that when a pediatrician, the most important thing is to love the child from the bottom of your heart. No matter how the child cries, don't get annoyed." Zhong Qianjun told Zhong Weide that in Zhong Shifan's view, the child cannot speak and diagnose If you have difficulty, the doctor needs to know how to find the child's pain.

In the 1950s, Zhong Shifan took the lead in establishing the Pediatric Virus Laboratory of Zhongshan Medical College in the country. While fighting for scientific research, he did his best to treat and save people. He also treated his children after work. Some children were too young to go to the clinic. Parents brought them from time to time. Take the child to seek medical treatment at home. The Zhong family watched him do a comprehensive set of examination procedures for the child: throat, thyroid, listening/beating the heart and lungs, touching the stomach, checking the activities of hands and feet...

Indeed, Zhong Nanshan and Zhong Weide both started from the words and deeds of the "medical generation" to start their medical career. "Among the doctors, my father is the one who has the greatest influence on me." This is what the father and son said in unison.

When Zhong Weide was a child, he often followed his parents to Zhong Shifan's home and laboratory-there were hundreds of laboratory rats at the bottom of the stairs. This atmosphere made him and his father yearning for medical research. Different from Zhong Weide's ability to catch mice and play, Zhong Nanshan often brought materials to ask his father, and was "beaten back" by his strict father.

Many people don't know that Zhong Nanshan's real healing and saving lives began at the age of 35. In 1971, when Zhong Nanshan returned to Guangzhou, his father asked: "Nanshan, how old are you this year?" Zhong Nanshan replied: "35 years old." His father sighed, "Oh, it's 35, it's terrible." Inspiring Zhong Nanshan to "recover lost time." Zhong Nanshan, who worked in the Fourth Hospital of Guangzhou at the time, went out early and returned late, and wrote four major medical work notes a year. He lost 24 kilograms, but he quickly qualified for clinical work.

In Zhong Weide's eyes, both his grandfather and father were serious people and demanded the next generation. They are all devoted to work, and often patients chase home to send thanks. Just as Zhong Nanshan said, "I feel that being a doctor is respected, and I am really happy to help people solve problems," so is Zhong Weide.

Zhong Weide likes liberal arts, but under the influence of two generations of doctors, he also studied medicine. He chose the field of urology, "I don't want others to think that I have made achievements in the medical field because of my father."

Healers: self-denial, exercise for work and medical skills to aid Guizhou "father and son soldiers"

Everyone who has been to Zhong Nanshan's family knows that Academician Zhong still lives in an old house. "The difference between my family and other families is that we have a room dedicated to it with rowing machines, running machines, and parallel bars made by ourselves." Zhong Weide said that because his father Zhong Nanshan focused on exercise, he would exercise for 20 minutes every day, no matter how busy or late.

This kind of self-denial exercise originated in 2004 when Zhong Nanshan suffered a myocardial infarction due to an overdraft of his body, and he let go of a stent. Since then, he wanted to keep his body strong and devote himself better to medical work.

Zhong Weide was deeply influenced by his father's attitude towards life. His office is equally simple, receiving visitors even at a folding iron table. Zhong Weide also loves sports. He is the main player in the provincial basketball youth team and the school. He believes that only a strong physique, calm temperament, and spirit of unity and cooperation can be qualified for the work of a doctor. He even takes a basketball test when recruiting graduate students and observes students on the spot. Our immediate reaction.

Similarly, in the pursuit of advancement in medical research, the father and son are in the same line. The 84-year-old Zhong Nanshan is no stranger to modern diagnosis and treatment technology and is the leader of the molecular biology key laboratory. Zhong Weide's in-depth research on big data, information technology, data models, etc., made Zhong Nanshan quite pleased.

The Zhong family's "three generations of medicine" have a special relationship with Guizhou. Zhong Shifan worked in the Guizhou Central Hospital, Zhong Nanshan lived in Guizhou for 8 years, and the three generations of the Zhong family always kept the idea of helping their second hometown in their hearts. Zhong Nanshan and Zhong Weide are the "father and son soldiers" assisting Guizhou. Zhong Nanshan serves as the academician expert medical and health aid team of Guizhou experts. Zhong Weide is the core expert. Dejiang County Health and Poverty Alleviation, Bijie City No. 1 People's Hospital counterpart assistance... They follow their parents In the footsteps, bring medical technology, talent training and other achievements to Guizhou.

The love of doctors: treat patients equally and empathize for three generations

The patient said: "I have seen Academician Zhong, and I feel half healed!" In Zhong Weide's view, this is because the patient trusts the doctor enough.

Zhong Shifan and Zhong Nanshan, who have strict requirements for their children, are very kind to the patients.

Zhong's family knows that before treating each patient, Zhong Shifan must wash his hands well; “When the weather is cold, the doctor's hands and the earpiece should be warmed before the examination, so as not to stimulate the child to resist the examination.” Such a reminder. , Even written in his "Differential Diagnosis of Pediatric Diseases".

Zhong Nanshan, who was taught by his father's words and deeds, is recognized to be very serious in seeing a doctor, considerate to the patient from the patient's perspective, and give the patient much-needed care. The well-known Zhong Nanshan has a lot of people who handed over notes to see the doctor. Regardless of the patient's identity and occupation, he personally checked and asked for consultations. It took at least 30 minutes to complete one consultation. He has been in the outpatient clinic every Thursday afternoon so far, and there is no very special situation, and he has not given way because the patient is the most important.

Even so, Zhong Nanshan still did not feel that he was doing well enough. Once Zhong Nanshan was asked: "It's also a doctor, how do you think your son is doing?" He really replied: "He communicates with patients better than me."

Zhong Shifan will prescribe a penny of medicine to patients, even if they are misunderstood. For medical experiments, Zhong Nanshan took blood from himself more than 30 times and recorded the experimental data; in order to study the topic of "carbon monoxide's impact on the human body", he smoked carbon monoxide wildly. The carbon monoxide content in the blood was as high as 22%, which is equivalent to 60 consecutive pumps in one hour. Many cigarettes. During the SARS period, Zhong Nanshan's boldness in medical treatment and speaking has left a deep impression on people. This is just like the aspiration he confided in his father’s grave-sweeping, "Stick to the truth and tell the truth", just because "We must be worthy of the patient and cure the patient."

"All for the patient" is also deeply imprinted on Zhong Weide's body.

Like his father, Zhong Weide takes every patient very seriously and responsibly. On the day of the reporter’s interview, two patients at his outpatient clinic in the morning were registered but did not show up. He waited for an hour, "I was afraid that they would come from other places. time". A patient who has been following him since 1994, Zhong Weide always prepares a pair of clean pants for him every time he comes to see the doctor. "He has incontinence and is uncomfortable from Fogang," said Zhong Weide. In his heart, his grandfather and father led him to establish the idea of serving the patients wholeheartedly. The empathy of "empathy" is the most precious asset.
