Along the local railway line that connects Kita-Akita City and Senboku City in Akita Prefecture, "rice field art" drawn with different colors of rice is in full bloom.

This "rice field art" is drawn every year from 9 years ago by local trains that connect Takasu Station in Kita-Akita City and Kakunodate Station in Senboku City, the Akita Inland Line operating company, etc. in cooperation with local farmers.

This year, the rice planted in early June has grown, and the five "rice field arts" are at their best.

On the rice field near the platform of Kamikikiuchi Station in Senboku City, the traditional event of floating a big paper balloon with a wish written in the sky, "Paper balloon raising in Kamikiki" and the Akita dog are drawn.

It means that 6 types of rice were used, including white and blackish varieties.

A woman in her 60s who visited from Odate City with her relatives said, “I am looking forward to seeing what each pattern looks like every year, and I am glad that this year was cute. I will also see other rice field art.”

Shinichi Saito, General Manager, Transportation Department of the Akita Inland Railway, said, "Since the line is in a depopulated area within the prefecture, we want rice field art to trigger interest in nearby tourist facilities as well."

This rice field art can be seen until early next month.
