While the coronavirus epidemic is progressing in the territory, the doctor Martin Blachier recommends on Europe 1 not to organize family reunions, such as cousinades or weddings. According to him, the reunion between young people, many of whom currently carry the virus, and the oldest, vulnerable to Covid-19, can have "dramatic" consequences.

INTERVIEW

France has more and more cases of coronavirus infections, in particular among young people, more tested and more resistant to the virus. To contain its spread, Martin Blachier, epidemiologist, advised Monday on Europe 1 not to participate in major family events, such as weddings. Indeed, according to him, these family reunions participate in the progression of Covid-19 in the territory.

"All family celebrations in closed places, they must be canceled," recommends the doctor. "If you have planned in September to make a big cousinade with the whole family in the living room, you should not do it," he adds. Going to a wedding also represents, according to him, "an extremely important cluster risk".

Meet outside and avoid vulnerable people

For Martin Blachier, the consequences of these meetings should not be minimized. "If you have two grandmothers and an aunt who are foolish, you risk sending them to intensive care," he says. Indeed, according to the epidemiologist, "many young people carry the virus today" and "real kinetics are increasing".

CORONAVIRUS ESSENTIALS

> Holidays: should grandparents worry about looking after their grandchildren?

> Coronavirus: in schools, the health protocol will remain the same at the start of the school year

As they multiply, these behaviors can even have worrying repercussions across the country. "Cases will arrive at the hospital and we will reblock everything", warns Martin Blachier. The doctor therefore advises rather to meet in small committee "outside" and by paying "attention to vulnerable populations". "A party between young people who risk becoming contaminated" is thus less worrying than a family celebration, the consequences of which can be "dramatic" and lead to "deaths" and shipments to "intensive care".

However, the progression of the virus in young people must be taken seriously. It is necessary, according to Martin Blachier, "to calm the kinetics of circulation between the young people". "Because if it grows too large, it will be difficult to control its progression towards the more vulnerable population", continues the doctor.
