My father is a poverty alleviation team member in the village. In the past few years, because of my father’s work, I know a little bit about the poverty alleviation work that is in full swing throughout the country. I also know that behind this magnificent cause are the hardship and bitterness of ordinary people, as well as their persistence and responsibility. In the autumn of five years ago, when I first learned that my father was going to the countryside to help the poor, I thought he would only be able to return after leaving for ten and a half days, as usual. But who knows, it has been five years since it went.
[Background] Yunnan girl Yuan Jingrui wrote to her father Yuan Minglei's composition "Father's Way to Help the Poor", which moved everyone on the Internet. Recently, the reporter interviewed the daily life of poverty alleviation workers in the village with a daughter, and learned about China's poverty alleviation in the eyes of high school students.
[Explanation] 45-year-old Yuan Minglei is an "veteran" member of the village poverty alleviation team. In August 2015, his unit selected a team member for poverty alleviation in the village. He took the initiative to register and was assigned to Yudong Community, Zhongping Street, Huize County, a national poverty-stricken county in the hinterland of Wumeng Mountain. He worked for 5 years.
[Explanation] Check the water source and check the greenhouse. This is also an ordinary day for a poverty alleviation team in the village. In order to eliminate absolute poverty in an all-round way, since 2012, China has selected more than 3 million officials from government agencies and state-owned enterprises and institutions at county level and above to participate in village assistance.
[Explanation] In the past 5 years, Yuan Minglei has been together with his family more and more. His daughter Yuan Jingrui also recorded her father's "absences" in her composition. Yuan Jingrui once complained about his father, and even thought that his father was not a qualified father and husband. Later, after seeing her father in the village, she changed her mind.

Later, after the college entrance examination, I went to my dad’s village again, and when I went there, it really felt like a new look, and it really changed a lot, like my dad did. Those poverty alleviation work is very subtle. Like my dad, they build roads and ditches. If you don’t understand, if you don’t go deep, you may look at it and say that the changes are not particularly obvious. There is no huge project, (no) very powerful. But in fact, what my dad did was really to help these poor households in a down-to-earth manner.

In the past, my father carried the shadow of traditional literati—good writing, gentle personality, few words, and sometimes even looked a little dull. And it is such a person who doesn't like words, running back and forth between the two villages under the scorching sun, braving the wind and snow to check the construction of the assistance projects one by one, and drenching in the rain with a flashlight to visit the house one by one.

The achievement of China’s poverty alleviation is not only an increase or decrease in numbers, it is not only about where poverty has been lifted, and where and how, but it is said that there are really many poverty alleviation workers like my dad. Behind them, working hard, and dedicating, and behind them is the support we give them as family members, so I feel that the great Chinese people, the Chinese people, must be ordinary people. He is not someone, not the kind of heavenly wizard, not the kind of personal hero, I think it is the greatness of a group.

My father, as well as every poverty alleviation worker, did not have the name of a hero but acted as a hero, did not praise his father's ability but acted for the day, and no Confucius and Mencius had the heart to help the world.
