(Fighting New Coronary Pneumonia) Urumqi Center for Disease Control explains why it conducts temperature checks 3 times a day

China News Service, Urumqi, August 15 (Reporter Sun Tingwen and Zhao Yamin) Wen Guoxin, deputy director of the Urumqi Center for Disease Control and Prevention, said on the 15th that an important manifestation of human infection with the new coronavirus is continued fever, accompanied by cough, chest tightness, and Symptoms such as fatigue. Although fever is not the only criterion for determining new coronary pneumonia, observing changes in body temperature is still the simplest and most direct way to find people infected with new coronary pneumonia. Therefore, it is necessary to check the temperature of residents three times a day.

On the same day, Xinjiang held the 29th press conference on the new crown pneumonia epidemic and prevention and control work in Urumqi. At the press conference, Guoxin explained in detail why temperature measurements are performed three times a day.

Wen Guoxin said that there are mainly the following considerations: First, the uncertainty of human body temperature. In medicine, the normal body temperature of the human body is generally 36.5 ℃-37.2 ℃, but everyone's basal body temperature is different, some are slightly lower and some are slightly higher. In addition, affected by the environment and time, the body temperature of a normal person is different in the same day in the morning and in the afternoon. Generally, it is higher in the afternoon than in the morning, but the range will not exceed 1℃. At the same time, everyone's sensitivity to body temperature is different, some people are more tolerant, and some people are less. For example, some people have no obvious feeling when the temperature reaches 38℃, and some people feel uncomfortable when the temperature reaches 37℃. Therefore, if the temperature is only measured once a day, the temperature status of residents cannot be accurately understood in time.

The second is the need to determine fever standards. In medicine, 37.3℃ is regarded as a critical line of human fever. When the body temperature reaches 37.3℃, it is considered to be abnormal body temperature with fever. On this basis, fever is divided into low fever (37.3℃ to 38℃), moderate fever (38.1℃ to 39℃), high fever (39.1℃ to 41℃), and ultra high fever (above 41℃) according to the temperature range. Therefore, three temperature measurements a day can more truly monitor the health of residents.

The third is the diversity of causes of fever. Because there are many diseases that cause fever, such as the common cold, common bacterial pneumonia, and even common diseases such as intestinal infections can also cause fever in patients, or urinary system infections can also cause fever in patients. In this regard, it is necessary to pass continuous and multiple body temperature tests to timely conduct further examination and diagnosis of residents with abnormal body temperature.

Wen Guoxin said that community workers and volunteers should wear masks, protective clothing, and carry disinfectant sprays for their own protection when they come to take household temperature measurements. When measuring the body temperature, keep a distance of one meter from the residents. Use a non-contact thermometer to measure the temperature of the residents. After the temperature is measured, the residents close the door, disinfect the non-contact thermometer, and disinfect the ground at the same time before proceeding to the next one. The body temperature measurement can avoid cross-infection to the greatest extent. (Finish)
