Lawyer Gisèle Halimi died on July 28, 2020. Her life was marked by struggles: the defense as a lawyer of Algerian independence activists, the fight for the right to abortion and the criminalization of rape.

In 1978, his high-profile defense strategy for two young women victims of gang rape helped pass a new law in 1980 clearly defining indecent assault and rape and recognizing the latter as a crime, so that it had until then been considered an offense under French law.
