[Explanation] On August 14, on the eve of the 75th anniversary of Japan’s unconditional surrender, a reporter from China News Service came to the former residence of Mei Ruao, a Chinese judge who had participated in the "Tokyo Trial", in Mei Village, Zhuguqiao, Qingyunpu District, Nanchang.

[Explanation] Mei Ruao’s former residence was built in the early years of the Republic of China and has a history of more than a hundred years. It was severely damaged and nearly collapsed. After restoration by the local government, it was opened as a patriotic education base in 2013.

[Explanation] Entering the former residence, the statue of Mei Ruao stands in the middle. The diary and daily necessities of Mei Ruao during the Tokyo trial are displayed in the museum, as well as some historical materials of the Nanjing Massacre.

[Commentary] Standing in front of a group photo of the 11 judges in the Tokyo trial, the former residence guide Mei Tingjun is explaining that period of history to the visitors, and calling on everyone to remember the history and not forget the national shame.

The focus of my work was to let more people understand that Mei Ruao was a Tokyo trial (judge), how he sent Japanese war criminals to the gallows, and how he collected blood debts for those compatriots who died.

[Explanation] In May 1946, the Far East Military Tribunal, composed of 11 countries including China, the United States, Britain, and the Soviet Union, tried Japanese war criminals. Mei Ruao served as the Chinese representative judge of the court. After more than two years of trials and 818 sessions, he defended the dignity of the nation with his professional knowledge.

[Explanation] Mei Ruhuang, 88 years old this year, is Mei Ruao’s cousin. They have lived together for a period of time. He has also witnessed the whole process of restoration of Mei Ruao’s former residence. In recent years, people from all walks of life or organizations have spontaneously come here. He was both happy and proud of this visit.

This is of course happy. This is also the strength the country has given him, and it is also the glory of the country. It belongs to him to make his own efforts. It is also the glory of our hometown and our village.

[Explanation] "Forgetting the suffering of the past may lead to disasters in the future." The famous sentence that Mei Ruao wrote during the Tokyo trial was engraved in a prominent position, and it is also known and remembered by more and more people.
