More than a week after the double explosion that destroyed part of Beirut, Lebanon, the inhabitants of the working-class district of Karantina are organizing, as best they can, for their survival. Every day, citizens line up to obtain some basic necessities from NGOs (oil, margarine, sugar).

If the humanitarian crisis is only beginning, the first tensions between the different communities have appeared. Some Lebanese consider that they have priority over Syrian refugees when distributing food. "Lebanese or Syrians, we try to give to everyone. But initially, we are funded to help Christian families in the Achrafiyeh district who have suffered damage", explains to France 24, Theresa Bader, member of the NGO Steps of Hope.

Welcomed in large numbers for several years in Lebanon, the Syrian refugees paid a heavy price during the double explosion in Beirut. Dozens of them perished in the tragedy.
