Atsuma Town, Hokkaido, was severely damaged by the landslide caused by the Hokkaido Earthquake in September, and 37 people were killed, including deaths related to the disaster.
According to the time of the Obon festival, a road was set up on the 11th at the landslide site in the Yoshino area in the mountains where the number of victims was the highest at 19 people. From the morning, staff from towns and roads visited the dedication stand and turned their hands toward the flowers.
Construction is underway in the Yoshino area to prevent the slope from collapsing and roads are being developed. By this time, 90% of the construction will be completed, and it is planned to finish by March next year.
On the other hand, Atsuma Town has decided to cancel the memorial ceremony scheduled next month, two years after the earthquake, in consideration of the effect of the new coronavirus.
An employee of Atsuma Town said, “I lost my colleague at work in this Yoshino area due to the earthquake, and I still can't believe it. I want to tell you that I am doing well for recovery and reconstruction.
The dedication stand will be installed until the 16th of this month and will be installed again next month, two years after the earthquake.
