An episode (8/11/2020) of the program "Beyond the News" discussed the dimensions of the current tension between Turkey and Greece and the extent of its relevance to the regional context in which it comes, the possibilities that this tension could reach, and the chances of containing its risks in the eastern Mediterranean.

The Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar confirmed that Turkey has taken all necessary measures and measures to protect its rights and interests in its maritime areas of influence in the eastern Mediterranean.

A statement by the Turkish Ministry of Defense, after Akar's meeting with the army leaders, confirmed that the exploration and survey vessel "Oroç President" is working under the protection of ships of the Turkish naval forces, in messages that confirm the anger of Ankara, which held Athens responsible for the current tension in the region.

For its part, Greece called for an urgent meeting of the European Union to discuss Turkish positions. As for a European, the spokesman for the Union for Foreign Affairs described the situation in the eastern Mediterranean as very worrying, and that it calls for dialogue, but he stressed that the Union is in full solidarity with Cyprus and Greece.

Greek journalist and political analyst Yannis Kotsumitis said that Greece began talks a few days ago with Turkey, which was angry at his country's signing of an agreement with Egypt, and decided to resume surveying and exploration for gas, which Greece stopped pending the outcome of the negotiations.

Kotsumitis added that the Greek-Egyptian agreement does not infringe on any Turkish region, calling for Egypt, Turkey, Cyprus and Greece to negotiate to reach an agreement.

On the other hand, Turkish political analyst Gorkan Zengin said that there was no good intention of Greece in the negotiations with Turkey, indicating that the Egyptian-Greek agreement contradicts Turkey's previous agreement with Libya.

For his part, Professor of International Relations at the University of Jordan, Hassan Al-Barari, considered that the recent Turkish steps came as a rejection of the attempts to isolate it by Egypt, Israel and Greece, with French incitement and American sponsorship.

Al-Barari added that the previous Egyptian-Israeli agreement seeks to transform Egypt into a center for gas trade at the expense of the gas pipeline that Turkey is trying to establish with Russia.

Al-Barari pointed out that the Egyptian regime represents regional agendas for countries that openly express their hostility to Turkey, especially the UAE, which rejects the Turkish model of governance represented by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the Justice and Development Party, in contrast to the model of the military coup in Egypt that it supports.

However, Greek journalist Yannis Kotsumitis denied the interference of other parties in his country's agreement with Egypt, denying any desire to isolate Turkey.

Turkish political analyst Gorkan Zengin confirmed his country's readiness to deal with scenarios regarding Mediterranean gas.
