"MANGA CITY TOKYO" Tokyo's ever-changing works Introduced in one hall August 19 19:22

An exhibition that introduces works such as manga and anime depicting the landscape of Tokyo as a city will start at the National Art Center, Tokyo on the 12th.

At the National Art Center, Minato-ku, Tokyo, the special exhibition “MANGA Toshi TOKYO”, which starts on the 12th, shows that the city of Tokyo continues to change while interacting with fiction, such as manga, anime, and movies. It was designed to have you realize it, and 551 points of 93 titles are displayed.

Of these, the scene in which the Godzilla on the poster is destroying the National Diet Building was inspired by the appearance of Tokyo, which had become a burning field after the Great Tokyo Air Raid.

In addition, in the popular manga "Kameari Park-mae Kotsushosho" in Katsushika-ku, the original image of the scene where the main character, Rytsu Kankichi, actually visits his statue standing in front of JR Kameari Station is also displayed.

In addition, a convenience store with a virtual idol "Hatsune Miku" on the window glass and a full-scale model of a JR Yamanote Line vehicle covered with advertisements for anime characters are also on display.

Associate professor Kaichiro Morikawa of Meiji University who planned the exhibition said, "The fast-changing landscape of the city of Tokyo is well recorded in the work, and that work also affects the transformation of the actual city. I want you to feel the power of that culture."

The special exhibition is being held at the National Art Center, Tokyo, until November 3, and admission is on a reservation basis to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus.
