On August 4, the reporter learned from the Qinghai Lake National Nature Reserve Management Bureau that, according to the latest image data, affected by the expansion of Qinghai Lake and the rising water level, Bird Island, which was originally a peninsula bordering the land, has now been restored to an island state. Recently, the road connecting Bird Island was completely interrupted, and Bird Island has been restored to an island.

Qinghai Lake Bird Island is an important breeding ground for waterbirds. Every year, about 60,000 waterbirds breed on Qinghai Lake Bird Island and about 100,000 waterbirds migrate and stay. Brown-headed gulls, bar-headed geese, and cormorants that breed in Qinghai Lake account for 60% of the global total.

In order to reduce the impact of tourism activities on the ecological environment of Qinghai Lake and protect the ecological environment and natural resources of Qinghai Lake, starting from August 29, 2017, the Qinghai Lake Bird Island Scenic Spot will be closed to welcome guests and stop all tourism operations.

It is understood that the water level of Qinghai Lake has been rising for 15 consecutive years. Although it has delayed a lot of work in the reserve, it is very beneficial to improving the ecological environment of the entire lake area.
