The Directorate General of Health published its daily bulletin on Monday. This reports 30,294 deaths linked to the epidemic in France (+29 deaths since Friday). Compared to the previous report, published on Friday evening, the number of hospitalized patients is declining. On the other hand, that of people in intensive care units is increasing. They are now 384, against 371 (+13).

In an attempt to curb the circulation of the virus, several cities, such as Nice or Lille, have made it compulsory to wear a mask in public spaces outside. A measure experienced as a constraint by some residents but which is a responsibility according to Emmanuel Hirsch, professor of medical ethics at the University of Paris-Saclay. Visiting the Lille metropolis yesterday, Prime Minister Jean Castex called on the French to "not let their guard down", to avoid a new general confinement.  

46,000 new cases of coronavirus in the United States

More than 46,000 new coronavirus infections were recorded on American soil on Monday in the past 24 hours, according to the count at 8:30 p.m. from Johns Hopkins University, whose reports refer to. This brings to 4.7 million the number of cases recorded in the country, by far the most bereaved by the pandemic, which has killed more than 155,000 there.

The world's leading economic power deplored 532 new deaths during the day. President Donald Trump said on Monday that the virus was "receding" in some homes in the South and West of the country, saying he saw signs "very encouraging".

The milestone of 5 million cases crossed in Latin America and the Caribbean 

South America and the Caribbean have passed the milestone of 5 million Covid-19 cases, according to an AFP count, from official figures. The pandemic has claimed more than 202,000 lives in the same region, where Brazil, with a population of 210 million, remains the hardest hit country with nearly 95,000 dead.

Reconfinement in the Philippines 

Faced with a worsening of the Covid-19 epidemic, more than 27 million people, or about a quarter of the population of the Philippines, are again forced to stay at home, after the cry of alarm from medical associations, who warned the country was losing the battle against the virus.
