“Bigfoot family” by Ben Stassen and Jérémie Degruson - Apollo Films

  • Although the best-known animation studios are absent from screens this summer, other lesser-known firms are shining on the big screen.
  • There is something for all ages and for all tastes between new and released.
  • The discoveries are as numerous as they are varied.

When Mickey is not there, the other studios dance! The absence of films from Disney or other major animation firms, such as Dreamworks or Sony, including Trolls: World Tour or Disconnected, will only be visible in the fall, allows exciting works to occupy many screens. . 20 Minutes took great pleasure in selecting them, indicating for each film which element is the most attractive. All that remains is to run to the cinema to come alive during this summer affected by the Covid-19.

"Spycies": Very, very special agents

Spycies , an animated spy film directed by Guillaume Ivernel ( Dragon Hunters ), is our favorite this summer . The wacky adventures of two secret agents in a land populated by striking animals bring to mind Zootopia and Hayao Miyazaki's Cagliostro Castle . The frenetic pace of their investigation, like the humor of a vitamin-packed ensemble, refers to action staples such as the Lethal Weapon and Mission: Impossible sagas . We fall for the hero, a blue tomcat and a pretentious bit with the allure of James Bond with short hair. (Released August 26).

“Bigfoot Family”: wild adventures!

In the Bigfoot Family , I ask for the son. Ben Stassen and Jérémie Degruson ( The Magic Manor ) send this shy, hairy teenager in search of his missing daddy. An industrial villain and his oil company only moderately appreciates the green activists who support the heroes. Alaska serves as the backdrop for this very well-crafted film which follows Bigfoot Junior , directed by the same duo in 2017. A remarkable visit to the Annecy Festival put this resolutely family-oriented work on the rails of success! And a big, clumsy teddy bear makes mega hugs. (Released August 5).

"Akira": A masterpiece to rediscover

To say that Akira (1991) by Katsuhiro Ōtomo is a masterpiece is obvious for those who have already seen it and will become so for those who will discover it on the big screen in a version restored in 4K. It's very simple, we haven't done better since then. The hero's motorcycle chases through the streets of futuristic Tokyo remain role models for many filmmakers in both Anime and live action. A big thank you to Eurozoom for having had the good idea to bring out this great moment of cinema around a teenager with strange powers. We would love his motorcycle and his sneakers and also see the film several times! (Released August 19).

"My Ninja and Me"
A really cool animated film.
Not too scared for my 5 year old.
Very interesting story (child labor, good values, drugs ...) for my 9 years old.

In short, I recommend.

"My Ninja and I": Original and committed

It was the pleasant surprise of July but it is not too late to discover My Ninja and me by Anders Matthesen and Thorbjørn Christoffersen. The originality of this friendship story comes from its theme. The ninja doll who befriends the hero was made in a factory where children are exploited. She seeks revenge on the western sponsor of the toys. What could be just another complicit duo then turns into a reflection on the world, ideal for having a nice conversation after the screening! We would also be delighted to have our own little ninja to help in case of hard knocks! (In theaters since July 14).

"Yakari, the film": On the trail of a little Sioux

After having been the star of a comic book and a television series, the little Sioux knows the honors of the big screen. Yakari, the great adventure of Xavier Giacometti and Toby Genkel is intended for the youngest spectators. Its intrigue full of tenderness and its rounded aesthetic are well made to enchant them. The film finds the charm of the albums of Derib and Job on the trail of this resourceful kid with the gift of talking to animals. The freshness of the whole does a lot of good and the bugs that Yakari crosses form an endearing bestiary. We love Petit Tonnerre, the indomitable horse he is trying to capture. (In theaters August 12).

We share with you our # Actuciné: in family from 6 years old: Snow White💃, the red shoes and the 7 dwarfs, Korean animated film. The princes transformed into dwarfs come to the aid of a princess whose beauty is hidden in her shoes. Humor and love❤ pic.twitter.com/6C9eSjYVhD

"Snow White, the red shoes and the 7 dwarfs": Totally crossed out

From South Korea comes Snow White, the Red Shoes and the 7 Dwarfs of Hong Sung-ho, an animated comedy revisiting fairy tales with a good dose of fierce humor. It's impossible not to think of Shrek when she sees how the plump princess has to deal with small serving knights to save her father and his kingdom. A nice message letting it be understood that beauty is not just a question of weight and centimeters makes the film recommendable. And this Snow White with round cheeks like apples is really cute to eat! (In theaters since July 29).
