Dubai Culture and Arts Authority "Dubai Culture" is organizing this evening a virtual seminar on the history of pearl diving, which carries many tales of men 's feet and their challenges in the seas.

The seminar is attended by Mustafa Al-Fardan, the supervisor of the annual "Anwar Al-Lulu" exhibition coinciding with the "Al-Qaffal" race for sailing boats, which is organized every year under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Minister of Finance.

The symposium aims to spread knowledge among citizens, residents, and visitors, including sea and pearl amateurs, precious stone owners in the region, and young talents, about pearling, a craft that maintains its position as part of the identity and heritage of society and generations, as a decoration, craft and industry.

The profession of pearling is an integral part of the Emirates heritage, as its people relied heavily on pearling, and this trade, which dates back thousands of years, was the backbone of life for them before the discovery of oil, and along with trade and fishing was a source of livelihood.

One of the topics that Alfardan will discuss is "diving in ancient civilizations - diving and sustainability." The symposium will also include a presentation of a short film on the visit of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum to the exhibition "Anecdotes of Pearls" last year, as well as a presentation of "Tawash" tools and playing the art of tamboura on the lute.

The symposium will shed light on the history of this heritage craft full of distinct stories and rituals from preparations for the departure of the fishing fleet, the types of ships that were used and their titles, the tools used in them, the fleet crew and their labels and missions, and the stages of pearl diving, to the return trip called "the locksmith".
