[Explanation] Recently, the Shanghai Film Bureau stated that the "Shanghai Movie Watching Season for the People" will be launched from August 3 to October 31. During the event, starting at 10 o'clock every day, viewers can log on to Taopiao or Maoyan APP to buy movie tickets for movie theaters in Shanghai. Each ticket can enjoy the "10 yuan (RMB, the same below)" discount, which is immediately deducted when paying online.

It is understood that 3.2 million tickets are expected to be subsidized during the entire event. The event adheres to the principle of "government subsidies and platform support". The Propaganda Department of the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Shanghai Film Bureau coordinated a special fund of 16 million yuan. The two major ticketing platforms, Taopiao and Maoyan, contributed 16 million yuan for a total of 32 million yuan. Used for movie discount ticket subsidies after the theater resumes business. The Shanghai Film Bureau hopes that through the implementation of precise subsidies for ticket-purchasing audiences, citizens can get real benefits, effectively promote film consumption, and help the film industry get back on track as soon as possible.

In the afternoon of August 3, the reporter learned during an interview at Shanghai Cinema that in addition to discounts for online ticket purchases, the theater also launched "half-price days" and other discount activities to attract citizens to enter the theater to watch movies.

(Subsidy of 10 yuan) should be online, they say it is like Maoyan (waiting for the online ticketing platform), it seems to be cheaper than (our). (But for us) it is not expensive today, because it is a half-price day, 50 (yuan) one.

[Explanation] However, many citizens said in interviews that the key to attracting people to re-enter the theater is the movie content itself, and expect more, better, and newer movies to enter the theater as soon as possible.

  [Concurrent] Shanghai citizens

I think the price is not a big problem when you come to the cinema to watch movies, mainly because the experience of the big screen is not available at home. The main issue is the film. If the film is attractive enough, I will still choose to come to the cinema.

The film will be more attractive, because if you have seen it before, it doesn’t make much sense to watch it again. The slight reduction in fares is not particularly attractive to us.

[Explanation] It is understood that as of July 27, a total of 215 theaters in Shanghai have resumed business (there are now 385 theaters in the city), accounting for 55.84%. Fuye Cinemas are distributed in all districts of Shanghai, which can meet the needs of people watching movies nearby. During the Shanghai International Film Festival, a number of film companies promised to release a number of blockbusters to "supply" the recovering film market.
