If you get lost in the new corona, please note the summer cold of children 4:08 on August 3

In the coming years, the colds of children needing attention are characterized by high fever and sore throat. We asked experts about the symptoms and precautions, and what to do if you are unsure of the new coronavirus infection.

We heard from Dr. Rei Miyairi, a director of the Department of Infectious Diseases, National Center for Child Health and Development, who is familiar with infectious diseases in children. Dr. Miyairi says, "Herpanghina, hand-foot-and-mouth disease, and pharyngeal conjunctival fever can be said to be the "three major summer colds" of the child."

Herpangina 39 to 40 degrees high fever

The symptoms of herpangina may be a high fever of about 39 to 40 degrees for about 1 to 3 days, with a red swelling of the throat, blisters and ulcers, and severe pain.

Dr. Miyairi said, "Please refrain from stimulating your throat and give pudding, jelly, etc. that are easy to swallow. It is dehydration that occurs because it is difficult to take water due to sore throat. I am tired. Or, if you don't pee for a long time, see a medical institution immediately."

Hand-foot-mouth disease It is characterized by rash

Hand-foot-and-mouth disease is characterized by a rash that accompanies blisters in the mouth, palm, back of the foot, and knees with a few millimeters of elevation.

Although there is often no fever, the rash becomes larger with redness within a few days and increases in number, then within a week the redness becomes light and disappears naturally. However, it means that the nails may come off when they are healed.

Dr. Miyairi said, "The virus that causes hand-foot-and-mouth disease and herpangina may cause meningitis. If you experience symptoms such as headache, dizziness, or vomiting, consult a medical institution immediately. The disease may be more severe if an adult is infected for the first time."

Throat pain of pharyngeal conjunctival fever (pool fever) High fever around 39 degrees

Symptoms of pharyngeal conjunctival fever include sore throat, redness in the eyes, and high fever of around 39 degrees, which lasts from a few days to a week.

“I sometimes get infected in the pool, which is also called pool fever. It may cause eye and eye glare and glare,” Dr. Miyairi said.

Preventing hand washing with soap

For measures to prevent and spread infections, "It is said that alcohol is not effective against viruses that cause summer colds, so it is effective to wash your hands with running water using soap etc. Do not share towels or toys. There is also an idea to put the child with the cold last in the bath.”

Also, if you are uncertain whether you are infected with the new coronavirus or have a summer cold, you should contact a medical institution before your visit. At that time, I would like them to tell in detail about the symptoms such as what kind of infectious diseases are occurring at schools and nursery schools and whether the child has a rash.

In addition, some people may want to refrain from receiving medical examinations because of the influence of the new coronavirus, but if they have a fever, they do not make their own judgments and ask that they should consult with us first.
