It is the largest cold-temperate virgin forest in China, with a forest resource area of 8,370,200 hectares, accounting for 32.01% of Inner Mongolia’s forest resource area and 61.62% of the forest stock.

According to the results of the ninth continuous inventory of China’s forest resources, the Greater Xing’an Mountains Natural Forest Protection Project in Inner Mongolia covers approximately 10 million hectares of forest land, protecting 7.9951 million hectares of natural forest resources and 375,100 hectares of near-natural forest resources, and the forest reserves are 940 million cubic meters. , The forest coverage rate is 78.39%. Compared with the initial stage of forest development, the forest area has increased by 2.005 million hectares, the forest stock has increased by 342 million cubic meters, and the forest coverage has increased by 18.26%.
"Up to now, there are 60 nature reserves in the Greater Xing'an Mountains of Inner Mongolia, including 8 nature reserves, 9 forest parks, 17 wetland parks, and 26 wetland protection communities, with a total area of 2.25 million hectares of protected land."
