Since it was posted on YouTube on Thursday, Greg Guillotin's latest hidden camera has caused a real tidal wave on the Internet. For nearly 50 minutes, the video features the comedian in his role of “worst trainee” for the C8 channel. In the guise of his character of daddy's son - Louis Vignac -, he brings an ordeal to JNR, a young 20-year-old rapper from the north of France, who is unaware that it is a hoax (à la difference from his relatives, all accomplices). Under the guise of an observation internship to discover the work of the artist, the intern with detestable behavior, chaining contempt, racism and grossophobia, tests the nerves of the young artist, with remarkable composure.

A video viewed more than six million times in 48 hours, ranking from Thursday at the top of the trends on YouTube. The "trapped" him, saw the counters of his clips and his social networks explode, consequences of an unexpected spotlight. “We knew it was going to go viral because Greg has a great community, but at this point we weren't ready,” explains the artist. I'm still stunned and overwhelmed, but it's a good buzz and the reactions of people make me too happy ”. And yet, things didn't have to turn out that way.

"The channel did not want to offend the public"

Initially, this hidden camera was supposed to air on May 28 on C8 but is deprogrammed at the last minute. "I had the explanations for the non-broadcast of the 3rd episode," wrote the comedian on Twitter. It was simply considered too touchy by the channel compared to the news! "

I had the explanations for the non-broadcast of the 3rd episode. It was simply considered too touchy by the channel compared to the news! We will put it back together for the next time. And I especially thank @Cyrilhanouna for producing this program for 3 seasons! 🙏

For his part, C8 explained to Puremédias having acted as a "precaution". Contacted by 20 Minutes this Friday, the channel simply specified "that in view of the tense climate that there was at that time, in relation to social inequalities, the channel did not want to offend the public". It must be said that at the heart of this video unveiled two months later, a sequence particularly marks the spirits: a sudden reaction of the rapper who totally took the film crew by surprise, and upset the spectators. "We did not expect it to take on such a strong social dimension," admits Greg Guillotin the day after it was put online.

"My character is basically loathsome anyway"

At the start, the pitch was neither more nor less than the confrontation of two worlds, that of a spoiled, fried and abject young daddy's son, facing a young rapper who is trying to break through. A very cartoonish situation, but that is the goal. "We played on a very classic divide of French comedy," says the comedian. Greg Guillotin then pushes the line thoroughly, not hesitating to multiply contemptuous, racist outings, and clichés about “young people from the suburbs”. "By pushing the cursor this far and saying such things, it gives you great reactions from the trapped," he explains. The more horrible I am, the more you tell yourself that the person is classy to react like that. My character is basically loathsome anyway, he represents racism, but everyone knows it, especially since he's already known. It's Louis Vignac who is ridiculous, and in front of him we have a person who has exemplary reactions ”.

In front of him, JNR remains indeed almost imperturbable. “In real life I'm patient, I like to think before I act,” he says. Unbearable, the trainee still makes him go through hell. “The day I get trapped is like in a movie. A day that does not want to end, I'm sick of it and I'm at the end of it, but I'm holding back, he says. I tell myself that it is only a small bourgeoisie, rich and selfish, who thinks only of himself. But it’s a challenge for me, because even if the person is a little strange I have to stay focused on my work ”. These relatives, all accomplices of the intern, also relax the atmosphere and channel the artist. JNR therefore takes his troubles patiently, makes him listen to his music, behind the scenes of the shooting of a clip ... Until the breaking point.

"We are blacks and Arabs"

At the very end of the hoax, fake police suddenly arrive in the recording studio where JNR, his relatives, the intern and the fake journalists are located, and lay their hands on weapons. Dummy firearms, previously concealed by Greg Guillotin and his accomplices. Panicked, the rapper, who has nothing to be ashamed of, suddenly flees under the stunned gaze of the trappers. Caught up by a cameraman, he explains: "We are blacks and Arabs (…) I don't want to get involved in the thing". An uncontrolled reaction and a chilling scene. “It's instinct, cold analysis the rapper. I don't even know how to explain it. I knew I had nothing to do with it, but since I'm at the studio every day I told myself that we were bound to get involved in this, and I fled straight. "

Greg Guillotin, meanwhile, remains speechless at the time: “We didn't know what was going on, I didn't even know that there was a cameraman with him. For me it was a disaster, we could not go to the end of the trap, I told myself that the end was horrible. I was sweating. It was a somewhat sad end, and one that went off in a fishtail, so a big moment of panic ”. And it is only after the fact, during the editing of the images, that the trapper discovers JNR's words after his escape. “I didn't expect him to say that at all. We are in a truth and we get out of the scripted thing. It made me realize even more that we are not concerned with that, and that it is a difficult daily life for them. And what is also sad is that in the end when the police handcuff JNR, he is resigned ”. Hasn't the “hoax” gone too far? If the sequence seems overall to have moved the spectators, the discomfort is near ...

"It's still a joke, we shouldn't look any further"

For his part, Greg Guillotin does not think he exceeded the limits: “It was such an unforeseen event, it's not as if we had written it like that in wanting to provoke this reaction. This is something that has completely escaped us, it is life that goes down in history. We asked ourselves whether or not to put this sequence in the episode, we were afraid that it would give a bad image, from our own prism, we said to ourselves that it shows that he is leaking and that he does not respect not "order". And then we said to ourselves that yes, that was all the salt of the episode and that's what gives a social dimension. We had zero calculations. And it looks like it came out of a Hollywood movie. "

And what about JNR, victim of this hoax? Despite the stress of the situation, the artist does not hold it against the trap. "Frankly I was not well, I did not know how it was going to be, but I can not blame him", he assures calmly. For him, this hidden camera remains a good memory and good times of fun. "It's still a joke, and then it's not as if my friends weren't in it ... It's still a joke, we shouldn't look any further," he said, adding, "I do not regret at all, it was great and it makes me propel, I'm on top, everyone is happy. "

Delighted with this meeting and to have been able to help the rapper's career, Greg Guillotin for his part plans other hidden cameras from the “worst intern”. He is also preparing a feature film, "the trap of one person, but over a long period".
