Nimis in northern Skåne has been a protracted conflict between the artist and the County Administrative Board. But now Lars Vilks tells Swedish radio that he is prepared to talk to those in power.

“It is not a problem for me to apply for a permit. It is a negotiation and then you get into law and you have to agree on something that works. Then you have to sign some kind of agreement ", he says to the radio and continues:

"It starts as the Wild West and continues as the Wild West, but sometimes you get to a point where you have to get some kind of legitimacy from it."

Nimis has been under threat of demolition for 40 years, but if Vilks were to apply for a permit for the artwork, the County Administrative Board will review the prospect of leaving it standing - albeit with a ban on going up in the sculptures.
