Google has launched a feature in the United States that allows users to find businesses and businesses run by black people among the results displayed. In the search engine or on Google Maps, a small sign representing a black heart on an orange background will indicate the companies concerned, explains The Verge  this Friday.

As part of our ongoing commitment to racial equity, we're introducing an icon that makes it easier to identify and #SupportBlackBusiness in the US, in partnership with @USBlackChambers → https://t.co/t5lbq4x1Hp

To see this logo attached to their company, managers will first have to show up on the site. They will then have to prove that they are the leaders via a verification procedure by e-mail, telephone or mail. Once this has been done, they will be able to officially request the addition of the symbol. Google, however, did not say if and how it could determine or confirm the skin color of a company's directors.

In support of the Black Lives Matter movement

This new option proposed by Google aims to meet a growing demand from users who want to focus on African-American professionals. In line with the Black Lives Matter movement, the Mountain View company announced on its blog on June 3 its financial support for associations and initiatives to fight racial inequalities.

“The events of the past few weeks have revealed major structural challenges,” Google CEO Sundar Pichai wrote at the time. We will work in close collaboration with our black community to develop projects and germinate ideas leading to long-term solutions. And we will keep you informed ”. In 2018, based on a similar process, Google had already offered two separate logos indicating to Internet users businesses and businesses run by women or supporting the LGBT community.
