Giraffe children training with orthosis on their legs Hiroshima Zoo July 31 0:18

At a zoo in Hiroshima City, a child of Amemequilin, who could not stand on her own due to an obstacle in her hind legs, is training with walking while wearing a brace on her leg.

Walking training is being carried out at the Asa Zoological Park in Hiroshima City, the “Agume Kirin” child, born on April 9th.

From the time he was born, Hagumi was unable to stand on his own with both hind legs bent and stretched.

At the zoo, a cast was wrapped around the hind legs and fixed, and we were waiting for the condition to improve with growth, but we could not expect sufficient improvement, and with the help of Tetsuo Yamada, a prosthetic orthotist, we walked with a brace on our legs. I decided to try training.

It is said that the brace was completed after anesthesia was applied to Hagumi and the foot model was taken and remade many times.

It is said that Hagumi with the orthosis goes out to the playground on a day when he/she is in good physical condition and is training to walk, and now he can be seen walking with other giraffes.

Mr. Shiho Domen, who is in charge of breeding, says, “I'm very happy every time I see him walking. I want him to be energetic and grow up so that he can stand on his feet in the future.”
