The Emmys will be held on September 20 in a ceremony that must be virtual due to Covid-19, which is spreading with force in the United States, with 4.2 million cases.
The pandemic derailed the television calendar, to the point that some programs could not enter the election period for this year's awards.
All in all, the nearly 24,000 members of the American Television Academy , which awards the award, received a record number of entries to screen this year.
"2020 is not reduced to the global health crisis, but we are witnessing one of the greatest struggles for social justice in history , and it is our duty to use this means for change," said the president of the Academy, Frank Scherma , referring to the massive protests against racism and police brutality following the death of George Floyd in custody.
And Watchmen , who follow a group of masked vigilantes who are treated as criminals by government agencies, have captivated the audience in these times of protest.

The nominations were announced live from Los Angeles, with Leslie Jones from a studio, and actors Laverne Cox , Josh Gad, and Tatiana Maslany connected from their homes.

Of the nominations in the acting categories, 10 went to black performers , including King and Octavia Spencer, adding to those of Oh, Asian, and Ramy Youssef, of Egyptian parents. But this year there were no Latinos.
Jharrel Jerome , a descendant of Dominicans, won in 2019 as best actor in a miniseries for When They See Us , and Puerto Rican Benicio del Toro was nominated for Escape at Dannemora .
