The Covid-19 epidemic killed fifteen new people in 24 hours in hospitals and medico-social establishments in France, where the circulation of the virus continues to "increase", while the number of patients in intensive care is still decreasing, announced on Wednesday the Directorate General of Health (DGS).

The total death toll since the start of the epidemic stands at 30,238, including 19,723 in hospitals, and 10,515 in social and medico-social establishments (Ehpad), specifies the DGS in a press release.

Twenty-two new clusters

The number of patients with a severe form of Covid-19 hospitalized in intensive care continues to decline, with 380 patients concerned, or 5 less than Tuesday. Ile-de-France, Grand-Est, Hauts-de-France and Guyana continue to account for 69% of people hospitalized in intensive care.

“Apart from the occupancy rate of intensive care beds, which is slowly declining, the monitoring indicators for the COVID-19 pandemic show an increase in viral circulation”, estimates the DGS. The number of clustered cases, also called “clusters” continues to increase. In total, 646 cases grouped including those detected in nursing homes since May 9 have been identified, including 22 new since Tuesday and 399 closed.

A "cluster" is defined by the occurrence of at least three confirmed or probable cases, in a period of 7 days, which belong to the same community or have participated in the same gathering.
